The flag of Zimbabwe comprises seven equal horizontal stripes of (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) green, yellow, red, black, red, yellow, green. At the hoist of the flag is a white triangle with a black border inside which sits the Zimbabwe bird superimposed over a red five-pointed star - the national emblem of Zimbabwe. The colours of the stripes on the flag of Zimbabwe are derived from the colours of the flag of the Zimbabwe African National Union (the group wich led the struggle for self determination in the 1970s) as well as being the colours of Pan-Africanism.
The flag of Zimbabwe was officially adopted on 18 April 1980.
The flag's ratio is 1:2.
