The flag of Uzbekistan is a horizontal tricolour featuring the colours (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) azure, white and green, separated by narrow red stripes. In the azure section of the flag towards the canton sit a white crescent moon and three rows consisting of a total of twelve white five-pointed stars.
The flag of Uzbekistan was officially adopted on 18 November 1991 following the country gaining its independence from the USSR and is based on the design of the flag of the former Soviet Uzbekistan. The flag's crescent moon is an Islamic symbol, as are the 12 stars which represent the months of the Islamic calendar.
The flag's ratio is 1:2.
