The flag of Togo comprises five equal horizontal bands of green (top and bottom of the flag) alternating with yellow. At the flag's hoist is a red canton inside which sits a white five pointed star. The flag's five stripes represent the five regions of Togo, whlilst the colours of green and yellow are said to represent Togo's agriculture and mineral resources respectively. The flag's red canton is said to symbolise the blood of those who fought for Togo's independence, whilst the white star symbolises hope.
The flag of Togo was officially adopted on 28 April 1960 following the country gaining its independence. The flag was designed by artist Paul Ahyi.
