The flag of Somalia comprises a light blue field with a large white five-pointed star at its centre. The flag's colours of light blue and white are taken from the colours of the United Nations flag (Somalia was an Italian Trusteeship Territory under United Nations supervision at the time) whilst the five-pointed star represents the five regions in which the people of Somalia have traditionally resided.
The flag of Somalia was officially adopted on 12 October 1954. The flag was designed by Mohammed Awale Liban.
The flag's ratio is 2:3.
