The flag of Romania is a vertical tricolour consisting of the colours (from the hoist side of the flag to the fly side of the flag) blue, yellow and red.
The flag of Romania was first used in 1848 when the flag colours of Wallachia (yellow and red) and Moldovia (blue and red) were combined (these were the two provinces which formed Romania together). In the intervening years, the Romanian coat of arms as well as communist symbols at times appeared on the flag. The current version of the flag has remained unchanged since 27 December 1989.
The flag's ratio is 2:3.
