Rainbow flag

Part of our range of LGBT Pride flags, the rainbow flag is a multicoloured flag which consists of the colours of a rainbow. The rainbow flag has been adopted and used by many different organisations and movements over time; however, the most prominent use in the modern day is as the Pride Flag of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) community.

The rainbow flag first became a symbol of LGBT pride in 1978 and was designed by San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker. Each colour in the rainbow flag has symbolic meaning. From the top of the rainbow flag to the bottom of the rainbow flag - red stands for life, orange stands for healing, yellow stands for sunlight, green stands for nature, blue stands for harmony and peace, purple/violet stands for spirit. The rainbow flag originally had eight different colours but pink and turquoise were removed shortly after its creation.
