The flag of the Northern Mariana Islands is set on a blue field and features a decorative wreath inside which sits a gray stone and a white five pointed star. The flag of the Northern Mariana Islands was officially adopted in July 1985, replacing a similar version dating back to 1972. The flag includes three symbols - the star representing the United States of America, the gray stone representing the Chamorros and the decorative wreath representing the Carolinians. The blue background represents the Pacific Ocean. The flag's ratio is 1:2.
