The flag of North Macedonia is set on a red field and features a stylised yellow sun with eight rays extending to the outside edge of the flag.
The flag of North Macedonia was designed by Miroslav Grcev and officially adopted as the country's national flag on 5 October 1995. The original flag of North Macedonia following independence from Yugoslavia in 1992 featured the Star of Vergina (an ancient Macedonian emblem from the tomb of Philip of Macedon, father of Alexander the Great); however, Greece objected to the design and a compromise was reached.
The flag's ratio is 1:2.
