The flag of Nauru is set on a blue field and features a narrow yellow horizontal stripe across its centre with a white twelve-pointed star just below it nearer to the hoist side of the flag. The flag's horizontal stripe represents the Equator, with Nauru's position just south of the Equator represented by the positioning of the star (the star's twelve points each represent one of the twelve original tribes of Nauru). The flag's blue field represents the Pacific Ocean in which Nauru is located.
The flag of Nauru was officially adopted on 31 January 1968, the day of the country's independence. The flag was sourced from a local flag design competition.
The flag's ratio is 1:2.
