The flag of Mongolia is a vertical tricolour with the colours (from the hoist side of the flag to the fly side of the flag) red, blue and red. At the centre of the red panel at the hoist side of the flag is a 17th-century Buddhist emblem known as the 'Soyonbo'. The flag of Mongolia dates back to 1940; however, a previous version of the flag had a communist star above the Soyonbo. This star was removed on 12 January 1992 as Mongolia transitioned to being a democratic nation.
The flag of Mongolia was designed by Dodiin Choidog.
The flag's ratio is 1:2.
