The flag of Malta is a vertical bicolour featuring the colour white at the hoist of the flag and the colour red at the fly of the flag. In the canton of the flag sits a George Cross, awarded to Malta by King George VI in 1942 for heroism in the second world war.
The current version of the flag of Malta dates back to 21 September 1964 following Malta gaining its independence from Britain.
