Lord Howe Island Unofficial flag
Lord Howe Island is part of a small group of 28 islands, islets and rocks located in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand, roughly 600 kilometres east of New South Wales. The Lord Howe Island Group is officially part of the state of New South Wales but is regarded as an unincorporated area administered by the Lord Howe Island Board, which reports to the New South Wales Minister for Environment and Heritage.
The flag of Lord Howe Island is an unofficial flag. The unofficial Lord Howe Island flag is based on the pre-1801 Union Jack flag, which excluded the red of the St George's Cross. Set in the centre of the flag is a yellow disc inside which sits an image of the island's topograpgy as well as a Kentia palm, a tree native to Lord Howe Island. The unofficial flag of Lord Howe Island was designed by Sydneysider John Vaughan and was first flown in November 1998.
