The flag of Kyrgyzstan is set on a red field, at the centre of which sits a yellow sun with 40 rays. The flag of Kyrgyzstan was officially adopted on 3 March 1992 following the country gaining its independence from the former Soviet Union.
The flag's colour red was the colour used by national hero 'Manas the Noble', who formed the Kyrgyz nation from its 40 tribes. The flag's yellow sun has 40 rays to represent these 40 tribes. At the centre of the sun is a stylized bird's-eye view of the roof of a Kyrgyz yurt - a traditional tent used by the nomadic people of the Kyrgyz nation.
The flag's ratio is 3:5.
