The flag of Kenya is a horizontal tricolour featuring the colours (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) black, red and green. Between each of these colours is a small white border. At the centre of the flag is a Maasai shield with two crossed spears.
The flag of Kenya was officially adopted on 12 December 1963 following the country gaining its independence from Britain. The flag's colours are derived from those of the Kenya Africa National Union - the dominant political party at the time of independence.
The flag's ratio is 2:3.
