The flag of Jamaica comprises a gold diagonal saltire dividing the flag into four triangles of green (top and bottom) and black (hoist side and fly side).
The flag of Jamaica's colours of black, green and gold represent hardship, land and the sun respectively. The motto that accompanies the flag of Jamaica is "Hardships there are but the land is green and the sun shineth".
The flag of Jamaica was chosen through a flag design competition and was officially adopted on 6 August 1962.
