Iran Persia 1964-1980 flag
This Iran Persia 1964-1980 flag is a past flag of Iran. The flag has some similar features to the present day Iranian flag, namely the horizontal tricolour of (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) green, white and red. This Iran Persia 1964-1980 flag differs from the present day flag of Iran by way of the prominent lion and sun symbol at its centre. The lion and sun symbol was used on various Iranian flags dating back to the 1500s. However, the symbol was removed from the Iranian flag following the Iranian Revolution of 1979, with the new government seeing the symbol as a representation of the Western world.
This flag is often used in opposition to the current regime in Iran, especially by ex-pats.
