The flag of Guernsey comprises the St George's Cross with a gold Norman Cross within it. Guernsey had previously used the traditional St George's Cross; however, the similarity between this flag and the flag of England prompted a change.
The gold Norman Cross is borrowed from the flag of William the Conquerer at the Battle of Hastings and was the preferred flag of the Guernsey Flag Investigation Committee charged with the responsibility of deciding on a new flag. The new flag was officially adopted on 30 April 1985.
The flag's ratio is 2:3.
