The flag of Guatemala is a vertical triband featuring the colours (from the hoist side of the flag to the fly side of the flag) sky blue, white and sky blue. At the centre of the flag sits the coat of arms of Guatemala. The flag's sky blue colour is said to represent the two oceans either side of Guatemala - the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean - as well as the sky over the country. The flag's white colour is said to represent peace and purity. The colours sky blue and white are also based on the flag of the former Federal Republic of Central America.
The flag of Guatemala was officially adopted on 17 August 1871. The flag's ratio is 5:8.
