The flag of the Dominican Republic comprises a white cross dividing the flag into four rectangles - blue in the upper hoist and lower fly of the flag and red in the upper fly and lower hoist of the flag. At the centre of the flag sits the national coat of arms of the Dominican Republic.
The flag of the Dominican Republic was designed by the leader of the Trinitarian movement, Juan Pablo Duarte. The flag is based on the flag of Haiti (who occupied the Dominican Republic from 1820-1844) with the cross added to symbolise faith.
The flag of the Dominican Republic was officially adopted on 6 November 1844.
