The flag of Colombia is a horizontal tricolour with the colours (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) yellow, blue and red. The yellow section takes up the top half of the flag whilst the blue and red sections take up the bottom half of the flag in equal measure. The colours of the Colombian flag are symbolic in different ways - yellow is said to represent the federation of Greater Colombia, blue is said to represent independence from Spain, red is said to represent courage.
The flag of Colombia was officially adopted on 26 November 1861. The flag's ratio is 2:3.
