China Hong Kong 1959-1997 flag
This China Hong Kong 1959-1997 flag is a past flag of Hong Kong. This flag was the official flag of Hong Kong during the British Colonial era and features the Hong Kong coat of arms set on a British Blue Ensign flag (blue with the Union Jack in the upper hoist quadrant of the flag).
This flag ceased to be the official flag of Hong Kong on 1 July 1997 following the transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong from Britan to China. However, the flag is sometimes used by protesters in present day Hong Kong to represent causes such as the fight for universal suffrage and independence from the Chinese mainland.
