The national flag of Bangladesh consists of a red coloured disc on a green coloured field. The red coloured disc is set in the centre of the flag vertically but slightly towards the hoist side of the flag. The flag of Bangladesh was officially adopted as the country's national flag on 17 January 1972. The flag of Bangladesh is sometimes referred to as "The Red and Green". The flag's ratio is 10:6.
The flag's red coloured disc is said to represent the sun rising over Bengal as well as the blood of those who died fighting for the independence of the people of Bangladesh. The flag's colour green is said to represent the lush lands of Bangladesh.
