Argentina

The flag of Argentina is a triband flag design consisting of three horizontal bands of equal width coloured (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) light blue, white and light blue. In the centre of the flag set on the white band is a mostly yellow depiction of the Sun of May. The Argentinian flag was created and designed by revolutionary leader Manuel Belgrano and was first used at the city of Rosario on 27 February 1812 during the Argentine War of Independence (the National Flag Memorial of Argentina stands on this site), although the Sun of May was not added to the flag design until 1818.

There are numerous different interpretations surrounding the reasons for, and significance of, the colours of the Argentinian flag. The most common explanation is that the colours light blue and white represent the sky and clouds over Argentina. The Sun of May is said to represent the Inca god of the sun, Inti.

Argentina celebrates a national flag day on 20 June each year.
