The flag of Algeria is a vertical bicolour comprising the colour green at the hoist of the flag and the colour white at the fly of the flag. At the centre of the flag is a red crescent and a five-pointed red star - symbols of Algeria's Islamic national faith. The flag's colour of green is also a symbol of Algeria's Islamic national faith.
The flag of Algeria was officially adopted on 3 July 1962 following the country gaining its independence from France.
