South Vietnam flag

This South Vietnam flag was the national flag of the State of Vietnam and the Republic of Vietnam from 1949-1975. The flag comprises a yellow field with three narrow red horizontal stripes through the middle of the flag. The flag's ratio is 2:3. The three red stripes are said to represent the common blood that runs through northern, central and southern Vietnam. The flag ceased to exist as a symbol of the state on 30 April 1975 when Saigon was taken and the Republic of Vietnam came to its end. The flag is often used by Vietnamese communities abroad as either a symbol of ethnic unity or a protest symbol against the current Vietnamese government.
