Jordan

The flag of Jordan comprises horizontal (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) black, white and green bands, connected by a red chevron at the hoist side of the flag. At the centre of the red chevron sits a white seven-pointed star.

The colours of the Jordan flag are the Pan-Arab colours and were first used on a flag used by the Arab revolt in 1916, a Pan-Arabianism movement seeking independence from the Ottoman Empire. The flag's seven-pointed star represents the seven verses of Islamic belief which open the Qur'an - faith in one God, humanity, humility, national spirit, virtue, social justice and aspiration.

The flag of Jordan was officially adopted on 16 April 1922; however, the flag's star was only added in 1928 when Jordan gained its nominal independence.

The flag's ratio is 1:2.
