Egypt

The flag of Egypt is a horizontal tricolour featuring the colours (from the top of the flag to the bottom of the flag) red, white and black. The national emblem of Egypt - the Egyptian Eagle of Saladin - is positioned at the centre of the flag. The colours of the Egyptian flag hold symbolism assigned by the Egyptian Free Officers of the 1952 Egyptian Revolution - the colour red represents blood shed in the war against colonisation, the colour white represents purity and the colour black represents the manner in which darkness is overcome. The colours of the Egyptian flag inspired many further national flags in the region and became known as the Pan Arab colours.

The flag of Egypt was officially adopted on 4 October 1984.
