Aruba flag

The flag of Aruba comprises a light blue field with two narrow horizontal yellow stripes in its bottom half and a four pointed red star with white fimbriation in the flag's canton. The flag's colours and symbols have various meanings - light blue represents the sea that surrounds the island of Aruba, yellow symbolises Aruba's freedom and separation as an autonomous member of the Kingdom of the Netherlands since 1 January 1986, the star represents the four points of the compass and the origins of the Aruban people from all over the world.

The flag of Aruba was officially adopted on 18 March 1976 and was retained when Aruba became autonomous in 1986. The flag was designed by vexillologist Whitney Smith.
